After spending 17 days in Uganda, Shellee knew her life had been changed forever. This was her third trip volunteering in Africa and the most impactful. She was asked to come and teach women how to start businesses so they could support their families, and what she learned was that these mommas would do anything to protect their children, just like mothers all over the world, they just did not have the resources. On her final day in Uganda, she had lunch with a local Ugandan social worker named Yona, He shared about his desire to build a school in the small village he was raised in to give back to his community. He shared photos of the land and the tree where the students currently attend school. He said that the child must walk three hours to school and three hours home with only one meal a day. Without a good education, nothing would change. Toward the end of our discussion, Yona shared that once a girl becomes a woman, they are considered unclean and can not attend school. This was the final story that set Empower Education in motion.

Empowered Education President
Hi I’m Henry and I’m the President of Empower Education. In 2023, I helped create this organization. As the others who help create this project have gratuated, I wanted to help it grow and leave a legacy. I decided to stick with the project because of my passion for helping others get an education that will skyrocket them into a better future, as well as all the good that can come from a passion project just like this one. Often you’ll see me leading a meeting, the STEM committee, or setting up breakout rooms. If this sounds anything like something you would be interested in, I implore you to hop on to one of the calls and get involved with Empower Education!
Empowered Education President
Hi I’m Mila, and I am one of the Presidents of Empower Education. In Summer of 2023, I joined the Empower Education group as one of the presidents of the medicine and health sciences committee. I led my group to raise over 8000 USD and send 300 handwritten medical booklets to Uganda. A passion of mine has always been to work with children and especially those in underprivileged communities. It always brings me so much joy to see how these kids are impacted by our projects. I’m working to spread our message throughout the globe and make sure that all kids have access to different forms of education. I’m so honored to be working with such an amazing team and can’t wait to see the effects it has on children throughout the globe.
Empowered Education Vice President, President of Oaxaca Project and Co-Leader of Rags to Pads
Hey, I’m Layla!
I'm excited to introduce myself as the Vice President of Empower Education. I lead the Oaxaca Project, linking the Oaxaca Foundation of Education and the Arts (OFEA) with the Uganda Project aiming to extend what we are doing for students in Uganda to those in Oaxaca too. Additionally, I serve as a co-leader of the Rags to Pads Project where we provide underprivileged female students with access to education through reusable pads. Through this project, I've been fortunate to collaborate with numerous committed students and make significant developments in improving healthcare for many children who lack access to it. Small efforts can lead to big change, and you won’t be doing it alone!
