GREEN HILL PRIMARY SCHOOL FIRST SEMESTER UPDATES
We had a fairly great First semester 2024 with a good number of development projects, some of which are still ongoing. We were able to teach over 850 students without major health challenges, showcasing our commitment to empowering education in our community.
Notably, we continued to perform well in National Exams, producing the best and second-best students in Kaliro District, further highlighting the effectiveness of our programs and our dedication to empower education.
We were blessed to continue with our STEM Classroom. However, it is still a work in progress, and we dream of more classrooms. Our aim is to have at least 2 streams per class to reduce congestion, as some of our classrooms currently host over 100 students.
With support from SHU’s Humanitarian Relief organization, we have advanced in constructing our very first boy’s dormitory (now at window level). Currently, our boys are sleeping in a classroom, which underscores our need for better facilities to support empowering education.
After over six years of effort, we finally received our official Ministry of Education registration certificate, allowing us to operate as a community private school.
To organize and motivate our staff, we acquired school T-shirts for uniformity among our teachers, especially during school functions. These were generously provided by SHU’s Humanitarian Relief Organization.
With help from Empower Education World and their families, we purchased four acres of land for our High School Project, aiming to start educating high school students in 2025. This effort aligns with our mission to empower education within our community.
Additionally, we added more students to our sponsorship list and appreciate the individuals who have shown interest in supporting children to attain the much-needed education.
This semester is typically the hardest for us, as it coincides with the famine season, leading to food scarcity in our communities. After the previous dry season, we struggled to find food and meet teachers' salaries. Fortunately, due to the reliable rains received last year, our communities had food this time around.
Over 99% of our parents are local farmers who depend on agriculture for food and income, indicating that during famine, they have little to sell for school fees. We hope the next semester will bring more food security.
We faced challenges such as a shortage of boarding beds, teachers' salaries, and food for both teachers and students.
Looking ahead, we have major future projects planned, including:
1. High School Classrooms Construction.
2. Teacher’s Accommodation Project.
3. Farming Land Projects.
4. Sanitary Project (energy-saving stoves, toilets, stores, and bathrooms/showers).
Thank you for your continued support.
